Nearly 40 % of the population lives below the poverty line, a particularly glaring reality in rural areas, where access to education, health care or drinking water remains very limited.\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">This structural poverty is compounded by growing insecurity due to armed conflict. Thousands of families have been forced to flee their homes and take refuge in makeshift camps. More than 1.5 million internally displaced people are now facing extreme hardship.\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">Living conditions in these areas are alarming: inadequate infrastructure, shortage of vital resources, insalubrity, isolation... Women and children, in particular, pay a heavy price, with violence, disease and exclusion from school.
